About the Department

The Department of music was established in 1973 with vocal and Instrumental Music ( Sitar ) as the main subjects. Many Nationally & Internationally both acclaimed performing Artists have been part of this department and working at present .The aim of department is to produce Professionally skilled teachers , artists , scholors and performers . To enchence the skills of Students and research scholars. The department regularly organizes the Conferences , Seminars, work-shops ,Concerts and interactive sessions with eminent experts. Sometimes Lecture demonstrations are also performed by noble Laureates in the department for students' overall development .The department also assess student' activity such as “ Sangeet Sabha “every fortnight by the students for the students to develop their organizing skills and to motivate them to to conduct event programmes.Summer classes are also conducted for freshers to giving them a broad outlook about the subject . Teachers and Students together contribute to enhancing the cultural era of the University by participating main events like National and International Youth Festiwal , Ghoomar Youth Festiwal and foundation day etc .

    These courses are designed on practical and theoretical aspects of the subject . The main motive of the department is to produce trained and skilled & trained musicologists and teachers. It aims at developing creating and innovative abilities of the students exposing them to the emerging prespective of Indian Music.

    Highlights &Achievements:

    The Faculty of the Department includes 'A' graded Artists ofAll india Radio , Nationally and Internationally acclaimed performers / Musicologists / Composers and recipients of State / national & International Level Awards / Honours in all streams of Music like Sitar, Dhruvpad,Khyal and LightMusic. Faculty members are the members of reputed Academic Bodies & Research Committees of various universities. Faculty members have participated in various international / National Conferences / Seminars and Workshops etc. Students, who have passed out from the Department have achieved name and fame in the field of performing art as artists (TV, Radio and Stage), Sound designer , Composer , Recordist , writer , & scholar etc . Most of Teachers has been published their Books by national & International Publishers . Research scholars of the subjects have availed research scholarships like JRF, SRF, Rajiv Gandhi and Departmental ScholarshipsforPh.D.research work. AnumberofstudentshaveclearedtheNET/SETexam. Department was continuously Organizing Online workshops, seminars, web series like 'Rubaru (Acquaintance with seniors)', 'Sangeet-Ki-Duniya', 'Dastaan-E-Sangeet' etc. These all programmes were conducted on the official Facebook page of the Deptt. for the students of Vocal, Instrumental (Sitar), Kathak (Dance) and Tabla from past Two years due to pandemic.

    Proposed Programmes and Courses :

    Indian Performing Arts for International Students, to explore these meditative art forms and propogate the same in their respective nations . Department will be entering into its golden jubilee year and to celebrate this, many cultural events will be organised by the teachers and the students like workshops, international and national seminars & Lec.-Dem. etc. during the session.
